Welcome back, Edumagicians, to another episode of the EduMagic Podcast. I'm your host, Dr. Sam Fecich. Today, we're diving into the exciting world of Instagram and how future teachers can leverage this platform to build connections and create meaningful educational content.
In this episode, I'll be sharing some awesome activities I did with aspiring teachers to help them create a professional online image. Let's start by talking about how important your Instagram bio is. It's your first digital impression, so it's super important to make sure it accurately reflects who you are as a future educator. Include:
a professional photo
a quick look at your teaching philosophy
add a link to your digital portfolio so people can get a more detailed look at your professional career.
Let's now focus on creating your introductory post. This is your chance to connect with others by sharing a professional photo, educational journey, motivations, and favorite educational quote. Use relevant hashtags such as #FutureTeacher or #FutureEducator to increase your visibility.
Maintaining consistency on Instagram can be both important and stressful. Consistency doesn't always mean posting frequently. Rather, it's about showing up for yourself on the platform, whether posting twice a week or every Monday afternoon. As a pre-service teacher without a classroom to showcase, staying engaged and relevant is still possible. Let's explore some ways to achieve this. Suggest a fantastic content strategy - choose three topics you're passionate about and have access to and plan to post about them throughout the week. For instance, you can share a reflection on what you've learned that week, post educational quotes, or even talk about your favorite educational YouTubers.
Next, Iet's discuss Instagram features you can use to post—such as carousels, reels, and stories, and how they can enhance your content and reach. To help you put these ideas into practice, I've prepared an activity sheet that outlines your posting schedule, content ideas, and the types of posts you can create. If you'd like a copy of this activity sheet, send me a direct message on Instagram, and I'll happily share it as a PDF.
