5 Ways to Build Relationships with Students in your Classroom


It is SO important to build relationships with students, and I didn't realize just how important it was until I started teaching. I encourage you to each day aim to do something that builds relationships with students in your classroom and you will see your classroom management improve. A teacher's ability to build relationships with students is crucial. We get to build relationships with students every day.

In this episode you'll learn:

  • The three things you should tell students - What we are doing matters, I know you can handle it, and I'm not going to give up on you.

  • Find out their names during the first few days of class. Learn how to pronounce their name and which name they prefer (Ex. Sam vs. Samantha).

  • Make sure you greet students at the door.

  • Why classroom management and relationship building are intertwined together.

  • Find out how to be an advocate for your students.



Now what?

  1. Build relationships with students by practicing the three phrases. This is something we get to do.

  2. Start with the student interest survey, but don't stop there.

  3. Break down those walls and get to know your students. Don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it.
